Local manufacturers have been asked to make sure that all products pass standards and quality test to enable Tanzania enter in industrialized economy in year 2025.
This was said Monday in Dar es Salaam by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Prof Elisante Ole Gabriel during familiarization tour at the Tanzania Bureau of Standard (TBS) offices.
Prof Ole Gabriel said Tanzania would not achieve industrialization drive if the local products did not meet required standards
“There is no industrialization without standardization, I urge you people from TBS to collaborate with local manufacturers to make sure the fifth phase government realizes its dreams,” he said.
He said standard plays a crucial role in economy since people will not be interested to buy products which are of low quality.
The PS also insisted local manufacturers to continue improving their goods in order to fetch markets beyond Tanzania.
He said more improvements on local goods should be done to enable wider markets outside the country.
“Manufacturers have a great role to play in improvement of our economy thus they need to enable our country export more,” he insisted.
He said the government in collaboration with other departments would continue helping the SME’s to reach their dreams in export of quality products.
He asked the standard body to ensure that Tanzania does not become a dumpsite of substandard goods which is dangerous to human being and can kill local industries.
