The company's Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Trieu Tanh Binh, while speaking in Dar es Salaam, noted that they have done so much over the past two years in the telecommunications industry including improving communication infrastructure, impacting educational sector, facilitating mobile money and lowering the cost of communications services among others.
“We have witnessed a significant growth of subscribers since our inception two years ago. That has been due to our innovative and affordable communications services as well as improving infrastructures to reach out to them especially in rural areas,” said Mr. Binh, adding that, “Statistics released by Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) show that our company is leading in terms of continuous increase of number of customers. We believe by the end of this year we will be among the top three companies with a huge customer base in Tanzania.”
“We are very excited with the continuous efforts by the government in creating conducive environment for investors. Important to note is the more transparent tax collection system that has eased our operation systems. The introduction of the electronic tax collection system was a huge relief to us that’s why we were among the first telecommunications company to join in,” added Binh.
Binh went on to note that Halotel Tanzania has for the last two years received tremendous from various institutions that contributed to the growth of the company.
“We are very appreciating efforts made by TCRA, TIC, TRA, security organs as well as other institutions that in one way or another have been guiding us into the right way in conduct of our business.”
Mr. Binh, went further to say that Halotel is also very proud to be among the companies that have provided employment to a significant number of Tanzanians. Currently, Halotel has offered over 1200 and over 20,000 direct and indirect employments respectively, and he believes that by the continuous investment initiatives the number is expected to increase throughout the country.
“When we stated, we enabled more than 3000, villages to receiving communications signals for the first time and our journey is ongoing, currently we have entered to an agreement with the Universal Communication Services Access Fund (UCSAF).  That will help us install 47 new towers and we will reach over 100 villages in border areas. The introduction of MNP program by TCRA helped us to gain more than 600 new subscriber coming to our Network.
Mr. Binh explained that they still have a huge opportunity to invest more and transform the communications services in the country. That is through introducing new communications systems by using the state-of-the-art equipment and becoming the leading company in providing better information and communication services.
“We are on the way to introduce the 4G LTE service to all Halotel customers across the country regardless of their geographical locations. We will not marginalize our customers since the aim is for them to enjoy quality and affordable communications services with special 4G LTE bundles,” said and added Mr. Binh, “But also we are targeting the education system in the country. For instance, so far in cooperation with the University of Dar es Salaam we have already established a studying system to secondary schools specifically for science subjects across the country. The system will be available free of charge to all secondary schools that use Halotel internet network. We have started with science subjects as a pilot project but soon after entering into agreements with the Ministry President’s Office Regional and Local Government (TAMISEMI), we will introduce other subjects as well.”
He added that, “Apart from transforming the educational system we are also working tirelessly to improve safety ion our roads and families. For example, we have technologies such as ‘Smart Home’ that will enable a parent to watch over her/his house, family or children wherever and whenever he/she is by installing special equipment for easy monitoring.”
The Deputy Managing Director explained further that his company has been part and parcel in assisting the community through various corporate social responsibility activities such as supporting children with autism, donating building materials to various schools across the country and empowering orphanage centers to mention a few.
In conclusion, he commented that among the main challenges they are facing as the investors is incurring high costs in operating telecommunications towers in areas with unpredictable electricity. Apart from that is regular theft of equipment around the towers but he believes those challenges will be resolved.
“I would like to take this noble opportunity to thank Tanzanians for their remarkable support towards serving them. Without them we are nothing and what we can promise them is to continue offering innovative and affordable communication services. And as part of the celebrations of two years, We’re also delighted to receive the Silver Award from Stevie International Awards, this is one of the biggest milestone of our company honored as the fastest growing telecom in the region.
