Internet is vital in unlocking Tanzania’s potential in tourism

As the world is celebrating World Tourism Day, Jumia Travel has identified that utilization of new technologies specifically the internet is of great importance in disclosing the country’s destinations.

Addressing the media during his visit in Tanzania GlobalHead of Public Relations for Jumia Travel, Mr. Abdesslam Benzitouni pointed out that the country has to embrace usage of all internet aspects including social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Instagram due to a remarkable number of the users.

“The internet has been playing an important role in the tourism and hospitality industry especially in providing information. Unlike before nowadays people can access information about a certain area wherever and whenever they are without physically paying a visit. Jumia Travel is leveraging on all the available online platforms to showcase and market accommodation facilities as well as destinations. Our website and social media pages offer  hotel partners  huge marketing and online visibility which largely bolsters their room occupancy,” said Benzitouni.

“As the world is celebrating World Tourism Day, the African continent  recorded over 58 million international arrivals in 2016. And the amount is expected to double in the next 15 years 130 million. Such success has been enhanced by the rapid growth of airline sectors, regionally and internationally companies playing a great role to carry travellers in and out of the boundaries,” added the Global Head of Public Relations for Jumia Travel.

He went further by elaborating that by Tanzania being mentioned among the top destinations in Africa in 2016 sharing, the same spotlight with likes of Morocco, South Africa, Rwanda and Namibia, the country carries great potential in the tourism sector and can fully benefit from the same through utilizing all the available tools to attract more international arrivals.

“In the hospitality report presented by Jumia Travel early this year, we discovered that Tanzania recorded 16% increase in number of international tourists in 2016. Apart from that Tanzanians’ number of internet users is increasing tremendously something which encourage the usage of new technologies. We can use them to promote and leverage our destinations, provide more information, good and competitive prices to ease travel activities. Most tourists who are coming into Africa are from Asia and China. For example, 10% of the Chinese who travel the world are coming to Africa,” concluded Benzitouni.

Among the main issues that Jumia Travel is working hard to address in the tourism and hospitality sector in Tanzania and across the African continent is higher prices in accommodations facilities. To most Africans, accommodation is among the main challenges hindering tourist activities for years. The Pan-African travel agency in Africa is committed to ensuring all sorts of accommodations facilities are accessible online. The aim is to enable everyone to access affordable accommodations services regardless of his/her budget.
