It’s obvious that you might not believe there are some places charge over 22 million Tanzanian shillings just to spend a night! Believe it or not, those places are there and Tanzania has been blessed to have one of them.

Thanda Island, is a private property built for leisure located on the Shungimbili Island found in southern part of Tanzania at the District in Mafia Island. The Island is roughly 20 acres and has a one villa with five bedrooms which allows up to ten families members to stay in.
In order to spend a night in this Island, the guest is charged $10,000 per night which is equivalent to over 22 million Tanzanian shilling. Beauty scenery, cool weather and the way the villa and two freestanding small beach huts (bandas) are the main reasons that costs become not a challenge to guests who spend time there. While spending time on the Island, it is an usual experience to sightseeing or swimming with whale sharks, dolphins or turtles.
The owners of this private property, the Swedish couple, Dan and Christin Olofsson got an idea to create such a villa as an escape plan with their three children and eight grandchildren. Among the reasons which pushed them to look for better places warmer than their Scandinavian home is the search for a place with fantastic wildlife and nature. The Olofssons started to invest in a private guest lodge which turned into to be a giant Thanda Safari in South Africa before moved into the southern Tanzania.
Among the things which were taken into serious consideration before the establishment of the property in the Island was how the tourist attractions and sea life could be conserved. In collaboration with the Shungimbili Island Marine Reserve in southern Tanzania, Thanda Island has been working closely to make sure the nature is protected and preserved as it were before.
In addition to that, Thanda Island is committed in benefiting the community nearby which is the people of Mafia Island through various aspect. The property has hired its staff from the Mafian community and is also supporting the educational development activities as well as running a project for extensive marine conservation.
In general, Tanzania is blessed with lots of tourist attractions which are yet to be explored.
