HALOTEL, UNIVERSITY OF DAR ES SALAAM FINDS SOLUTION FOR POOR PERFORMANCE ON MATHEMATICAL AND SCIENTIFIC STUDIES
Ongoing poor performance on Mathematical and Scientific studies has led various stakeholders to collaborate and find out how they can cooperate to increase performances on these studies. Recently experts from the University of Dar es Salaam and Halotel Tanzania, have cooperated and came up with a platform that they see will be one of the solutions in increasing the performance.
The web based platform that follows the Tanzania teaching curriculum and has been named Halostudy in the test and has already been tested at Lugoba Secondary School in Chalinze Coast Province to see how it can be useful for students and teachers.
Commenting on the Framework: Director of the Center for Virtual Learning from the University of Dar es Salaam, Joel S. Mtebe, said that “learning platform could be a major solution to the increase the passing of Science and Mathematics subjects because it is using modern methods of learning”
"This education platform will help students and teachers, Students can learn science or mathematics subjects anywhere whenever they have a mobile phone or computer enabled on the Internet, science and mathematics subjects has different teaching methods and this system has considered all of that by starting with O- level from form one to Form four, each lesson consists of recorded audio, video, and animations that will enable the students to learn by themselves, Said Dr. Mtebe.
“This education platform will allow students to learn for instance on how the heart function, they will be able to see directly through video-based on how the heart functions in the human body, differently from drawing on the board.” He concluded.
For his part, Heads of Communications Department for Halotel Tanzania, Mhina S. Semwenda said Halotel is happy to be part of a change in the Tanzanian education system, "With us as a company facilitating this learning platform has been one of the biggest milestones in elevating Tanzania education, along with this project we have also enabled more than 417 schools connected to the internet across the country. Therefore, this platform will be more useful to a lot of students and teachers, all of these efforts are to ensure that we support efforts of the government in improving education system" said Semwenda.
Commenting on the platform, Assistance Head Master of Lugoba Secondary school Mr. Benjamin Nyamatwema, said that they are impressed with the platform and they have a strong belief that it will be more beneficial in increasing student performance by enable teachers to have more teaching mechanisms but will also motivate and increase efforts to student because the system is aligning with new technological changes.
