Have you ever planned in which star-rated hotel you are going to stay? What credentials do you consider in rating that particular hotel? And among those credentials which come first while making a choice? These questions would be difficult to a normal person unless it’s an hotelier or an experienced traveler.
Most of the time when it comes to choosing which hotel to stay, among the things taken into considerations are such as level of services at the hotel, facilities, rooms, location, and price.
The issue of star rating hotels has been debatable for quite a long time because of the factors considered in the practice to differ from one place to another. For example, a four-star hotel in Tanzania could be rated as a two-star in Egypt, depending on credentials for selection. In making sure there is no confusion and a clear monitoring of star rating of hotels, in most countries the government or its institutions are the main regulators.
Recently, the Pan-African travel agency company, Jumia Travel launched her hospitality report in Tanzania for 2017 which revealed that among the hotels rated from one to five-star hotels most customers prefer to stay in two-star (41%) and three-star (39%).
The report further revealed that demand and average price for the most popular destinations are such as Zanzibar (30%), Dar es Salaam (26%), Arusha (10%), Mwanza (4%), Bagamoyo (3%), Mbeya (2.5%), Moshi (2%) and Dodoma (1.5%). Apart from having high demand, the prices for the rooms in those areas range from USD 134, USD 100, USD 50, USD 34, USD 58, USD 24, USD 42 and USD 23 respectively.
The invasion of the internet in most African countries has drastically transformed the way business and services are operated nowadays. Some of its competitive advantages are such as bringing business persons and customers from different places within a short time more closer than ever before, getting online and marketing visibility at lower prices, as well as facilitating easy availability and delivery of their services.
Jumia Travel by using its inventory of more than 1300 hotels across Tanzania, 30,000+ hotels in Africa and 300,000+ worldwide, has been working on facilitating hoteliers and reservation managers with systems to ease their operations wherever and whenever they are and not necessarily to be at their workstations.
With the company’s Extranet system, hotel or reservations managers can accept or decline bookings from customers, review the revenues, view the comments, to know of the customers and what they like the most. With all those information in a mobile phone, tablet or computer it's easy for them to evaluate themselves, do amendments and more improvements so as to retain and attract more customers in future.
Moreover, to guests who had to walk from one hotel to another or view various websites in searching for a place to stay now they can access to thousand of hotels in one website. That is, a guest can go through a hotel of his/her choice from a handful of options, know where they are located, view room availability, prices, amenities and payment options without a hassle.
Lastly but not least, the report has also highlighted on the travel contribution to national GDP whereby the statistics indicate that 72.4% of spending is derived from foreign visitors while 27.6% is from the domestic ones. In addition to that, most travelers travel for leisure purposes that are 85.5% while 14.5% is for business reasons.
