Jumia Travel urges the society to support local orphanage centers

The society has been urged to support initiatives established by Malaika Kids Reception which takes care of the homeless children, provide education as well as secure jobs for them.

That has been said by the Public Relations Manager for Jumia Travel Tanzania, Mr. Geofrey Kijanga when the staffs visited the center to donate food stuffs and other items as a gesture for the coming Easter holiday.

“First of all, I would like to commend on the good job which has been done by Malaika Kids Reception so far. We are fully aware that establishing a facility to take care of children who have no parents, family or been abandoned is not an easy job. But those challenges could be nothing if the community join their hands together to support such centers, it doesn’t need somebody to be rich so as to help,” said Mr. Kijanga.

“There is a saying goes by, ‘Charity begins at home.’ We as Jumia Travel Tanzania thought it could be better to support the community around before reaching out to those which are far away. We support fully the initiatives taken by this center to provide a home for homeless, I believe all of them would love to be living with their beloved ones. Furthermore, we would like to remind the society that homeless children are out there and they really need our support as a whole to look out for them,” added the Public Relations Manager for online hotel booking company.

“Therefore, on behalf of the company I would like to urge the government, other private sectors, individuals and the society in general to voluntarily help Malaika Kids Reception.  I managed to speak to the caretaker of this center and she told me that they do not only take good care of the children but also provide education, help them seeking jobs so as to establish their lives independently. Hence, as part of helping out, someone could assist in paying school fees or securing jobs to those who successfully completed their studies,” concluded Mr. Kijanga.

On her side the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Malaika Kids Reception, Ms. Najma Manji noted that it is very encouraging to receive good feedback from the community around.

“I would like to thank God, first of all, to see our efforts are recognized in the community we are operating in. I did not establish this center because I am rich, no, but it just felt not right to watch these children suffer while I could do something. And sometimes, I wonder what if among these children could be my own,” commented Ms. Manji.

Explaining in brief on what they are doing at the center and the challenges they are facing, the center’s founder said that, “So far we have almost 80 children, I am not quite sure how many are girls and or boys, but the number of boys is higher than of girls. We mostly receive children from the social welfare, preferably of the ages from 0 to 7 years old. Usually we prefer that age because it is a little bit challenging to shape behaviours of children above that.”
“Apart from taking care of these children, we also take them to school and later on help to secure jobs so that they can start their own lives. For instance, at the moment we are struggling to secure jobs for two of them who have completed their studies on hotel management. We are also proud that some of children who grew here are working and living their lives out there. What I urge is for the community to support our center through helping us with food stuffs, studying items as well as accommodate those who completes their studies so that they can have normal lives like us,” concluded Ms. Manji.

Items donated by Jumia Travel Tanzania staffs were such as maize flour, rice, beans, cooking oil, sugar, and soap to mention a few. The main purpose was to extend their good wishes for the coming Easter holiday over this weekend.
