By Jumia Travel Tanzania

Most christians in Tanzania and other places around the world are fasting for lent, a period which will last for 40 days. This season has a lot of meaning to worshippers as it is the time to associate with God very closely through fasting, abstinence and prayers.

It is possible that you are not knowledgeable of the important things to consider when entering this season. Jumia Travel shares some tips to make your fast a meaningful one.

Plan your fast early
It's better to plan early on your fast so that it does not interfere from your daily routine. You can decide to eat smaller portions of food, abstain from some foods or things, only drinking water throughout the day or not eating at all. Since most people are employed, there is need to be cautious so that the fasting does not interfere with work.

Your fast must not offend close people to you
Make sure your fasting doesn’t interfere with some activities of your beloved ones. Suppose you keep it a secret to your children, and they have an occasion you must attend. You can control that by fasting in a specific time and later on join them.

Don’t tell everyone
You must not tell everyone that you are fasting, let it be a little secret with your God. But you cannot hide it from your wife or husband. Informing everyone might result to different interpretations.

Avoid caffeinated drinks
Health specialists advice to avoid caffeinated drinks at least 2 to 3 days before you start fasting. Some people tend to catch headaches for 2 to 3 days after consuming such drinks. During this period, you must be very careful on foods or drinks which might harm your head or stomach since you will be spending a reasonable time without drinking or eating.

Skip spending much time on media
It will be better during this season to try disconnect yourself from some of the television and radio programs, newspapers or spending much time on internet. You never know whether what you will watch, hear or see might damage your focus.

Disconnect from people sometimes
Interactions with some people might be a reason for you to not fast properly. It will be better to stop seeing some people during this period. Some people even take a leave or halt what they are doing so that they can focus on lent.

Be careful with your emotions
Some people go through various emotion alterations during a fast. Pray to God to overcome such situations when it occurs, because it might harm your purpose and offend others.

Rest
It's a good thing to use this season to rest your body and mind to contemplate on a reason for your existence. Most people use much of their time working and this might be the right moment to put aside a little time to talk with their creator.

Keep your body healthy and hydrated
Fasting should not keep you from exercising. And that does not mean going for jogging or gym for working out. You can just go for a hike to experience what nature has to offer. Remember to drink a lot of water in order to keep your body hydrated.

Be still and hold on to your purpose
This season is very useful to learn God’s word, reflect as well as spending much time praying. To help you with this, choose some bible lessons to read, memorize and reflect. Fasting doesn’t always involve skipping food, drinks or abstaining from certain things but also praying a lot.

From those tips, Jumia Travel believes that your fast will be a meaningful one and will help to attain goals you set for yourself. Most importantly, will help you to rebuild your characters and not going back to wrong ways you were practicing.
