BARCLAYS OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS TO 24 UDSM STUDENTS

24 students from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) have been awarded full scholarships from Barclays Bank Tanzania, supporting government efforts and investments in the area of education.
“This year alone, 24 undergraduate students have been offered full scholarships under Balozi mwanafunzi programme and there is possibility of partnering with other universities in the future,” Barclays Bank Tanzania Managing Director Mr Abdi Mohamed said.
He said the initiative will help the bank build a real connection with students, customers and clients as well as other important stakeholders. The programme will have positive implications for the bank’s talent pipeline. “As a business we focus much of our efforts on education and skills.
As an employer we are well aware that Tanzania needs a thriving private sector investing in productive capacity,” he said. He added: “We aim to play a role in providing young people with tools and preparedness they need to find meaningful employment and business opportunities.”
At the launch of the Barclays bank initiatives of ‘Twendekazi’ and ‘Balozimwanafunzi’ few months ago, the bank announced to dish over 160m/- to facilitate the scholarship programme. Prof Bonaventure Rutinwa from the University of Dar es Salaam commended the bank’s initiative and urged students to use the scholarship as opportunity to realize their academic goals.
