Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency
in Africa, will hold the second edition of the Africa Travel Awards on January
25th. For this 2018 edition, the ceremony will be held simultaneously in 8
countries: Algeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, Senegal and
Tanzania. Tanzania will celebrate its Awards on January 25, 2018.
Explaining on how the
initiative is essential to the industry, Jumia
Travel Tanzania’s Country
Manager, Xavier Gerniers noted that, “The awards aim at promoting Tanzania's
tourism sector, and responds to the need of encouraging hoteliers to improve
the quality of their services for further advancement of their respective
destinations.”
“There are 7
categories to be awarded including: Customer’s Favorite Hotel 2017, Customer’s
Favorite Airline Company 2017, Best Destination Website 2017, Jumia Travel’s
Booking Award 2017, Traveller’s Choice Hotel 2017, Best Leisure Hotel in
Tanzania 2017, and Best Business Hotel in Tanzania 2017,” he added.
A jury panel, made up
of high-level tourism professionals in the country, have been put together to
judge the nominated hotels and ultimately decide on the winners. The jury’s
decision will contribute 50% of the outcome, while the other 50% will be from
the public through a voting process.
“We thought it could
be a great idea if both stakeholders and customers within the hospitality and
tourism industry throughout the country to participate directly. Hence, we have
given them an equal opportunity to give their suggestions on awards
recipients,” said and concluded Jumia Travel Tanzania’s Country Manager, “We
believe this will add more value toward the awards we are going to give out as
well as make a conduct more engaging. As days are numbered before the main
event, Tanzanians can still participate in the ongoing online voting campaign (vote here) and stand a chance to win a free night stay in one of our
partners’ luxurious hotel.”
The winners of the
African Travel Awards 2018 will be honored during a cocktail held on January
25, 2018 simultaneously in Lagos, Algiers, Dakar, Abidjan, Accra, Douala, Dar
Es Salaam, and Kampala.
